Block printing (also called Relief printing) is the process of carving patterns, shapes and designs into a 'block'. The 'block' could be made of wood, acrylic plastic sheet, lino (linoleum) or metal.
The Art of hand block-printing has been practiced for centuries in India. It is a process that requires steady movement and careful hand-eye coordination. This traditional technique of fabric printing involves the carved wooden blocks being dipped in fabric dye enabling you to create stunning and unique designs. The technique is used for small to medium 'runs' of prints. Successful block prints range from bold, simple shapes and designs with limited colours, to more complicated designs using a number of different colours.
We will be block printing with hand carved Indian wooden blocks - why not come along and unleash your creativity?
You will leave the workshop with your own unique cushion cover & insert, calico shopper, tea towel and small calico drawstring bag all printed by you. There will be lots of scrap fabric to practice on first. A wide variety of blocks and fabric dyes will be available to choose from.
Please note that workshops are non refundable and dates can not be swapped, you are welcome to give your place to someone else, it doesn't have to be the named person that booked the workshop attending. If the maker and/or Geek Bothy cancel the workshop a full refund will be issued.
